Coach Selection and Qualification

If you are interested in coaching or convening (assistants included) there are a few requirements which must be in place by the first game of the season.

1) Police Check

We have contracted a third party organization (CCCI) to conduct our police checks which take less than 48hours. Due to the overwhelming amount of checks that are required now for all volunteers the police have stopped accepting walkups at most of their stations.  Please complete the attached PDF and return it, along with two copies of ID (At least one gov’t issued photo ID).  If possible scan and email these forms to hl@nthockey.ca.  If you don’t have access to a scanner, please email hl@nthockey.ca and make other arrangements.

2) Speak Out!   Harassment and Abuse Seminar

Also known as Respect in Sport, a Certificate will be granted upon completion. These seminars can be attended at various locations throughout the summer or online. Please visit Hockey Canada or the GTHL website for more information

Once the requirements have been met, NT coach’s jacket will be given to you – it is a requirement to wear it on the bench each and every time you coach in order to identify yourself as a qualified individual to be on the bench. Convenors will also be receiving a jacket that should always be worn "on duty" to better identify yourself to parents and players.

Please note:  There will be instructors from CPHC on the ice for all Tyke games.  Parent volunteers will be limited to on bench coaching roles.  Sequential line matching will be used in tyke and Balanced Line Matching will be used in Minor Novice and Novice to ensure fair and equitable play that will result in a much more positive experience for all our kids.
